Larry Wilson's column about the change of McKinley's mascot reminded of me of how disappointed I was when my college's mascot was changed from the Diablos to the Golden Eagles and the college's name changed from Los Angeles State to Cal State, Los Angeles. After CSULA President John Greenley stepped down, James Rosser was hired from the East. As I recall, he didn't think Diablos was an appropriate name for our teams, so he railroaded the new, mediocre, politically correct mascot, Golden Eagles. I loved the Diablos name. It was unique, reflected my Spanish language and cultural heritage, and was no more offensive than the Duke Blue Devils or the Arizona Sun Devils.
