Amid the hubbub of sizzling beef patties, crew-member chatter and deep fryer timers going off, Oliva Galvan tapped a button at the McDonald's restaurant in Little Falls and glanced up as a customer's order appeared on a screen above her head.
Another veinte, please," she shouted, mixing English with Spanish from her native Mexico, in a request for 20 more chicken pieces. She grabbed a bun, dripped mustard and ketchup on it from two large, white, funnel-shaped containers, slammed them into a holder, threw some pickles and raw onion on the bread and passed it on to a co-worker to add the burger.

NEW YORK - An apple a day may keep the doctor away. But when you put it in a Happy Meal, it might help keep regulators at bay too.
McDonald's on Tuesday said that it would add apple slices and reduce the portion of French fries in its children's meal boxes this fall, effectively taking away consumers' current choice between either having apples with caramel dip or fries as a Happy Meal side. McDonald's also said it is offering a new mobile app focused on the nutrition of its fare, and is reducing sugars, saturated fats and calories in its main menu items.

Target Corp. soon followed, saying it would pull eggs from the Litchfield, Minn.-based company off its shelves.

TUCSON, Ariz., May 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonald's today announced its independent franchisees hired 310 new employees, filling a combination of full and part-time positions in more than 51 McDonald's restaurants in Southern Arizona. More than 3,000 applicants were interviewed as part of McDonald's April 19th Hiring Day. The hiring event was part of a nationwide initiative for McDonald's and its franchisees to hire up to 50,000 new employees at restaurants across the country.
We are very pleased with the number and experience levels of applicants," said Michael Osborne, President of the Southern Arizona McDonald's Operator Association. "This is a great opportunity to demonstrate to these new employees why the old McJob paradigm is outdated and cliche. Today people need to think, McJ...

The menu at fast-food giant McDonald's isn't the only thing that's been updated over the years. The restaurants themselves have seen the addition of drive-throughs, play areas and new cooking equipment.
Sometimes, though, a building needs more than a renovation - it needs a rebirth. That's why McDonald's franchisees Charlie and Barbara Golding razed one of their eight Colorado Springs-area restaurants this summer, at Academy Boulevard and Flintridge Drive on the city's north side, and are constructing a new McDonald's on the same site. The old restaurant closed July 9 and the new one is targeted to open around Nov. 1.
