Ever since our daughter Katy's loveable dog, Ben, started to get old, I've hoped that the Grim Reaper would call for me before Ben. I knew how painful it would be for Katy, and therefore for me knowing her grief, and missing the furry little granddog myself. Being a natural coward, I'd rather have skipped that pain. But Ben won, or lost, as the case may be. Cancer took him in August.

The Iroquois School Board has agreed to expand the scope of a $17.5 million capital project after bids came in a million dollars below estimate.
The two-year project, which began in June, involves upgrading buildings and systems. Superintendent Douglas Scofield said that will remain the focus of any additional work.
