BRANFORD -- Taekwon-do is more than a sport to brothers Harris and Michael Bonfiglio, it is a Korean martial arts tradition equally disciplined in body and spirit. It also exemplifies an integrity that the seventh-degree black belt masters said they intend to uphold when they serve as the chief referees for the fifth Global Taekwon-Do Federation World Championship in Russia from July 29 to Aug. 4.
The rest of the time, we'll sightsee," joked Michael, 47, who with Harris, 48, are the only two active Taekwon-do masters the GTF recognizes in the United States.

The Oklahoma Heritage Association opened its new Versus Series, pitting Will Rogers (played by noted author Bob Burke) against Mike Turpen (playing himself, a noted attorney/politician). Oklahoma City Councilwoman Meg Salyer was appointed referee for this match.
What can we say? No fighting occurred. Rather than confrontation, the men complemented each other. Free to the public, the evening with an audience of about 100 fight fans drew laughs, hoots, hollers and lots of applause.

West Virginia played without coach Adam Mitchell, who was serving a one-game suspension after being ejected from a match last weekend for comments made to a referee. Mitchell should be back for tonight's game.

It is written clearly that players and officials may not be critical of the umpires, the match referee, nothing like that, but Gayle does as he likes," Reid said on CMC's Prime Time Caribbean television news show last week. "I am hoping that the West Indies Cricket Board does something with him.

While Waynesville High School's Alyssa Ritchie was making her run to a Division II state singles tennis championship last fall, there was a referee watching each point of each match.
That might seem like it happens all the time," said Ritchie, a junior. "But I travel to a lot of tournaments, and it doesn't always happen. Sometimes you have roaming referees, but they have a lot of courts to watch.

TUCSON, Ariz. - As ugly as UCLA's offense, defense and special teams were on Thursday night in a 48-12 loss, things took an even uglier turn as the first half was about to end.
As a streaker, dressed as a referee and then not, ran across the field, a shoving match erupted at midfield between UCLA wide receivers Randall Carroll, Taylor Embree and Shaq Evans and Arizona defensive backs Shaq Richardson, Marquis Flowers and Jourdon Grandon.
