Part of a series about Maine artists will run starting Saturday, July 10, on Maine Public Broadcasting Network television stations. The Maine Masters Project video series, an award-winning project sponsored by the Union of Maine Visual Artists, will kick off with "Stephen Pace: Maine Master" at 11:30 a.m. July 10 and 10 p.m. Thursday, July 15.

DAYTON -- Stanley Cowell proved to be an inspired choice to launch Cityfolk's new Jazz Piano Masters series Saturday night at the Dayton Art Institute's Renaissance Auditorium. The 66-year-old Toledo native not only set a high standard for subsequent series performers to come, but also offered something of a historical overview of the jazz piano oeuvre.
Beverly Hallam's breathing is labored and her knees are wobbly, but the beloved York County artist is still endowed with verve for life. She showed evidence of her enthusiasm when she showed up for the premiere of the latest film in the Maine Masters project, a documentary film series about important Maine artists. The Ogunquit Museum of American Art screened "Beverly Hallam: Artist as Innovator" on Tuesday night. MPBN broadcast it later in the week, and Blue Hill Public Library shows it at 5 p.m. Monday.
Maine has long been home to visual artists of national renown, and contemporary artists have continued the tradition. Schoodic Arts For All will celebrate that heritage with the 2006 Maine Masters Project Film Series. Starting March 15, seven films featuring the work of Clark Fitz-Gerald, Dahlov Ipcar, William Thon, Alan Magee, Robert Hamilton, Harold Garde and Olive Pierce will be screened at 7 p.m. Wednesdays at Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor. This is a part of Maine, a part of where we live," said Mary Laury, executive director of Schoodic Arts for All. "These people are known worldwide and they live right here.
