The recent decision by Catholic Charities of the Boston Archdiocese to stop offering adoption services to avoid placing children with homosexuals is reverberating through child welfare circles and sparking fears that other Catholic Charities agencies may follow suit.

In 1882 George Angell, founder of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, established a children's club called Bands of Mercy, whose mission was to educate youth about pet care while giving them a platform to initiate positive change for domestic animals.
