Students in both Jay and Regional School Unit 36 will vote on new names, mascots and colors for the high and middle schools on Tuesday, April 5. The two school systems will become RSU 73 on July 1.

The controversy over the use of college athletic team names and mascots pertaining to Native Americans just got put back on the front burner ("Symbols, stay home,' Associated Press, Aug. 6, Sports section).
The National Collegiate Athletic Association's executive committee adopted a new policy Aug. 5 for NCAA colleges that said, "Mascots, nicknames or images deemed hostile or abusive in terms of race, ethnicity and national origin should not be visible at the championship events that we (they) control.'

Rise and Conquer, the two Baltimore Ravens mascots, will soon be joining visitors at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore for breakfast.
The event will be held for members of the Ravens Rookies Kids Club on July 16 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Members and their families will get a buffet-style breakfast, football activities and interactions with Ravens cheerleaders, Poe the mascot and zoo staff.
