Shouldn't the same question be put to the straw--or is it paper?--men and women who populate this glib but deeply problematic play? As opposed to the folks we meet in Permanent Collection or works like Jane Martin's Keely and Du, it's impossible to imagine any of [Tracey Scott Wilson]'s one-dimensional characters having a life off-stage. That's because they're all too busy Illustrating a Problem.
We now gratefully move from Wilson's staccato emotional shorthand to its inverse, the long form, mastered by Eugene O'Neill in his posthumous work, LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT. O'Neill's most overtly autobiographical play probes, at times in excruciating detail, the double-binds of the family in which he grew up. It's hard to imagine a series of relationships more efficiently designed to keep...

This new company's new residency brings with it stronger performances to the Meredith College stage. Under [Carnessa Ottelin]'s direction, it's no stretch to imagine Kristin Killmer's face staring gravely at us from an old daguerrotype in the role of the brittle young [Rebecca Longnecker]. Mary Floyd returns to the region rock solid as the prim, religious Charlotte, and Rachel Adams is quite notable here as eldest daughter Helena. John Honeycutt appears to channel Jack Lemmon as the irascible Karonk, and Ryan Brock displays adequate bandwidth as three of the four major men in the Longneckers' lives.

Johnson & Johnson filed an antirust lawsuit accusing rival Amgen of engaging in illegal sales practices to drive J&J's best-selling drug Procrit (epoetin alfa) out of the market. The dispute involves Amgen's anti-anemia drug, Aranesp (darbepoetin), which J&J's Ortho Biotech alleges Amgen bundles with two of its other products when selling to cancer clinics. Amgen believes the allegations in the complaint are without merit, and it plans to vigorously defend its position.
