This time every year I get a warm inner flush (no, not hot flashes, much nicer than that). It happens when I look out the window and see threatening gray skies, and birds gathering around the feeder in the backyard like folks at the free sample stands at Costco. It helps if a strong wind comes up and whines around the eaves, and carries the tired autumn leaves to a new resting place preferably in someone else's yard.
The holidays are coming! I buy the November issues of women's magazines, even though I know they'll just contain warmed-up versions of ideas and recipes that have been around for years.

At no time of year, do our twin obsessions of frenzied activity and love of a bargain become more apparent than at the approach of the holidays.
