CHICAGO, Nov. 2, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Veterans Legal Support Center & Clinic (VLSC) at The John Marshall Law School recently was awarded a $350,000 grant from the United States Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs.
The grant will enable the VLSC to accomplish four key initiatives: work with the state court system to implement Veterans Courts, as provided in Public Act 96-924, signed into law by Gov. Niedwiecki previously was an associate professor and director of the Lawyering Skills and Values Program at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and vice mayor of Oakland Park, Fla.
During the fall semester, Niedwiecki will teach a section of Lawyering Skills, and later will teach other courses in addition to directing the Lawyering Skills Program.

First-time test takers from Cleveland Marshall rank third among Ohio law schools
CLEVELAND, May 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The bar passage rate for first-time test takers from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University in February hit 90 percent, according to recently released results. Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law ranked first with eight students tested. The College of Law at the University of Cincinnati ranked second with five students, and Cleveland-Marshall ranked third with 30 students tested.

The idea of merging the Memphis and Shelby County police forces is the kind of outside-the-box strategy that serious crime fighting warrants. However, like so many ideas born of frustration and desperation, it would not address the crime problem over the long term. Getting a firm grip on crime in Memphis and the rest of the nation will require implementation of a broad set of strategies that local and national leaders have so far not embraced.
The first step is accepting reality: There is no silver bullet. More jails, more cops, more citizen involvement by themselves will not solve the problem. The public must be willing to accept a multifaceted crime reduction strategy and public officials must have the ability to deliver such a strategy.
