Taos County Attorney Sammy Pacheco compared leases presented at a joint meeting of the Taos Town Council and the Taos County Commission to a marriage -- but the "prenuptial agreements" were torn up at the May 28 meeting.
For many months, the two government agencies have tweaked the wording of lease agreements to allow the town to take charge of the old county courthouse on Taos Plaza and develop it into a culture center in exchange for the county's use of office space in the town- owned visitor center.
