When the Milwaukee Marquette boys basketball team started running out of gas Saturday afternoon, Bay View just revved up its motor.
Bay View finished the WIAA Division 1 regional final with a 24-9 scoring run, turning a tight contest into a 73-57 victory at Marquette, lifting the Redcats into next week's Sectional No. 8 at the Al McGuire Center.

Darius Johnson-Odom scored nine of his 17 points in overtime Thursday night to lead visiting Marquette to a 74-67 victory over No. 14 Connecticut, which played without coach Jim Calhoun on the bench.
Jimmy Butler added 16 points for the Golden Eagles (17-11, 8-7 Big East), who tied the game at 59 with 5.3 seconds left on a drive by Johnson-Odom.

With its heart and soul -- Jerel McNeal, Wesley Matthews and Dominic James -- all having graduated in May, a major transition within Marquette University's men's basketball program this off- season was both inevitable and expected.

Roughly 30 minutes after being informed he would be one of the 12 members of USA Basketball's World University Games team, Marquette Golden Eagles senior forward Lazar Hayward still seemed a little out of breath when asked to describe his excitement early Thursday afternoon.

Buzz Williams cut short his trip to the Final Four, returning to Milwaukee on Friday for a round of more formal talks with Marquette University administrators regarding the school's basketball head- coaching position, multiple sources said.
Williams, an assistant to former coach Tom Crean, appears at this point to be the leading candidate for the job, which has been vacant since Tuesday, when Crean unexpectedly left MU for Indiana.
