The Portsmouth Farmers Market will hold a special market 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Court and High streets. Broken Arrows Farm from Zuni will be among the vendors, with eggs, grass-fed beef, collards and kale. Look for greenhouse-grown strawberries along with asparagus, mustard, kale and more from Brothers Farm Market in Elizabeth City, N.C. From Carrollton, Batten Bay Farm will bring Brussels sprouts, collards and possibly homegrown mushrooms, and West Pierhead Bakery will have its crusty homemade bread for sale. The Portsmouth market will open for the season May 7.

This paper examines the relationships amongst volatility, total trading volume (TVOL) and total open interest (TOI) for three Taiwan stock index futures markets as well as the role of the latter two variables in the dynamics of GARCH modeling and forecasting. From both ex-post and ex-ante perspectives, we study this issue by using the VAR model and augmented GARCH-type models, respectively. For the GARCH-type models, we employ both symmetric and asymmetric models augmented with lagged logs in TOI and/or TVOL. We find that whether addition of these two variables helps the basic GARCH models predict future volatility depends upon the sample period examined for all three sets of futures. This is the height of opening season for farmers markets. Today the Farmers' Market at the Garden opens at Memphis Botanic Garden, 750 Cherry Road, from 2-6 p.m., hours it will keep on Wednesdays through Oct. 27. On Saturday, the Agricenter market opens for the season, and the Cooper-Young Community Farmers Market makes its premiere Saturday in the parking lot at First Congregational Church at 1000 S. Cooper.

Citiparks farmers' markets at five Pittsburgh locations will begin operating next week with an additional two sites scheduled to open in June. All the markets, which are sponsored by the city's Department of Parks and Recreation, will carry fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses and baked goods. Some locations will have flowers, small gifts and gardening items for sale.

Tops Markets will open a new $3 million store in Cheektowaga on Tuesday, its first in Western New York since 2003. The new store, at 3870 Harlem Road, will differ from most Tops stores in size, which will be only about a third that of a typical Tops store. But at 16,000 square feet, it still will have most of the amenities and all the departments featured in its larger counterparts, which are usually between 50,000 and 60,000 square feet.
