WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. futures and securities regulators unveiled a crucial part of their expanded supervision of the swaps market on Wednesday [April 27], by defining what products will be covered by last year's financial oversight legislation.
The proposals provided the market some long-awaited clarity. Regulators have been criticized for not acting on the definitions rule sooner, making it difficult for everyonefrom banks and insurance companies to commodity traders to prepare for the new regulations and the impact on their bottom line.

Bermuda's top insurance regulator said the main objective for the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA), and for Bermuda as a whole, is achieving regulatory equivalence on the European Union front. That includes expanding regulation of groups. Probably the most critical objective that they have for this year is the implementation of groupwide supervision, said Jeremy Cox, CEO of the BMA. In February, the BMA issued proposals to develop a framework for group supervision as part of its road map to meet Solvency II requirements, the new regulatory framework established by the EU.
