In an interview, David John Farmer, professor of political science and public administration, Virginia Commonwealth University, talked about the relationship between public administration (PA) and civil rights. According to Farmer he agrees that some politicians do misuse their powers, cloaking their own private interests under the claims of public interests. He agrees that corruption does exist among too many politicians, and among too many business executives and others. He agrees that in any country, a political class can genuinely mistake its own interest for the public interest. He said principal among these challenges for PA is how to help with the formidable problem of reaping the benefits of a vigorous market economy while limiting the severe damages that the market is inflictin...

The turbulence of South African political climate poses a great challenge to corporate communicators. Companies have started to move towards consultation in place of authoritarian communication, which is reflective of the government's efforts to achieve true democracy. Business communicators can contribute to the creation of a more prosperous South Africa by helping to preserve its free market economy, and introduce productivity standards and work ethics. Communication is a tool that can be used to bring together South Africa's politically and economically divided people.

The dominant system of global private economic ordering, grounded in classical liberal economic theory and based on robust private markets and a limited state regulatory role, has come under attack. That attack has been sharpened over the last several decades as the development of many poor states has failed to accelerate and as a consequence of the economic crisis of developed states that began to be felt in earnest in 2008. Like legal systems, economic systems grounded solely on rational activity without a foundation in normative value systems, are either incomplete or subject to perversion. This paper focuses on the values of substantive economics developed recently through application of Catholic theology. It focuses on the Catholic critique of consumerism, its understanding of a ne...

As the economy slowly moves toward recovery, one ongoing debate about the economic crisis has focused on evaluating whether additional regulation of capitalistic market tendencies will be effective in avoiding unethical practices that could lead to a repetition of the disaster. In the current crisis, public support appears to be continuing for government bailout efforts for financial service firms and 2009 efforts to save companies in the automotive industry. While trying to be ethically neutral by avoiding picking winners and losers in its bailout efforts, the government has already guaranteed nearly $3 trillion in money-market mutual-fund assets; taken an equity stake in nearly 600 banks while others have been allowed to fail; supported the life insurance industry; lent more than $300...
