Direct market access is a technological innovation that arrived on the scene as a way to speed up the execution of trades. Fueled by traders' demands to adopt another cutting edge trading innovation, high-frequency trading (HFT), direct access shaves off inefficiencies from the traditional broker execution process. The Town Council may decide Tuesday if it wants to sell a historic building next to Town Hall to a nonprofit organization or put the property on the market. Two council members met Monday with the nonprofit group, the Wallingford Public Access Association, which is currently headquartered in a converted storefront on Center Street. The group, which runs the town's public access cable TV channel, wants to turn the 138-year-old building at 41 S. Main St. into its new headquarters.
So what if the Market Building Foundation Board is within its legal rights to deny access to a group wanting to continue its six- year practice of holding monthly silent vigils on the building's sidewalk? It's still wrong.
