HAMPDEN, Maine -- Twenty days and a 2 1/2-hour recount later, the result of the Hampden Town Council's District 2 race was exactly the same.
A recount of ballots cast in the District 2 race between Thomas Brann and Mark Gray for a Town Council seat affirmed the results reached on election night, with incumbent Brann winning by 19 votes.

WEST PARIS ? A 30-year-old West Paris man was arrested early Friday morning after his gun went off during an argument with another man.
Mark C. Brann of Allen Road was initially charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, operating under the influence, operating after suspension, and carrying a concealed weapon. The complaint by the District Attorney's Office dropped all but the reckless conduct and criminal threatening charges.

HAMPDEN, Maine -- Local voters returned three incumbents and added one new face to the Town Council and also elected three new school committee members Tuesday.
Mayor Janet Hughes, who was running unopposed in District 1, won re-election with 406 votes to 35 write-in votes. In District 2, incumbent Tom Brann edged challenger Mark Gray 304-285.

HAMPDEN, Maine -- There was an uncommon amount of agreement at Monday night's regular meeting of the Town Council, which set Monday, Nov. 28, as the date, 1 p.m. as the time and the town office's council chamber as the place for the recount of District 2 ballots requested by challenger Mark Gray.
Town Manager Susan Lessard and Town Clerk Denise Hodsdon affirmed that both Gray and incumbent councilor Thomas Brann can be on hand to watch the recount -- along with the public -- behind a guardrail as two people designated by Brann and two more people designated by Gray count ballots. The recount also will be supervised by town attorney Thomas Russell.
