Bassist Ben Wolfe, long part of the New York jazz scene, has just released "No Strangers Here," his fifth recording as a leader and his first for the St. Louis-based nationally distributed MAXJAZZ label. Wolfe, born in Baltimore and raised in Portland, Ore., moved to New York when he was in his early 20s. He quickly landed high- profile gigs. He spent nearly five years with Harry Connick Jr. touring the globe and serving as the pianist's musical director. After leaving Connick, he joined Wynton Marsalis' smaller group and participated as a member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra; a stint with vocalist Diana Krall followed.
