MAQUOKETA, Iowa - A friend of the man accused of robbing the Andrew branch of Maquoketa State Bank testified Tuesday afternoon that Jason Brown asked him if he wanted to participate in a robbery.
Charles "Tennessee" Pledge, of Dubuque, said he has known Brown for several years.

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - The man accused of robbing the Andrew branch of Maquoketa State Bank last September testified Wednesday morning that he wasn't in Iowa the day of the robbery.
Jason Brown, 31, took the stand in Jackson County District Court to say that he was in Milwaukee on Sept. 2, 2010, and did not rob the bank. Brown is charged with first-degree robbery.

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - The Milwaukee man who was convicted of robbing the Andrew branch of Maquoketa State Bank was emotional when he said during sentencing Friday morning that he didn't rob the bank and wouldn't have threatened the lone teller.
Jason Brown, 31, was sentenced to 25 years in prison, which includes a 70 percent minimum, or 17 1/2 years, to be served.

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - The lone teller at Maquoketa State Bank's Andrew office described in emotional detail during a trial Monday how a man shoved a gun in her face, told her to get on the ground and demanded money.
The teller, Tina Lanning, told the jury that two black men walked into the bank at 3:17 p.m. Sept. 2, 2010, and asked to open a loan or cash a check. Lanning said she couldn't do either.

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - The trial for a Milwaukee man charged with robbing the Andrew branch of the Maquoketa State Bank nearly a year ago will start today in Jackson County District Court.
Jackson County Attorney Chris Raker estimated the trial for Jason Brown, 31, should last five days.

A community-wide charitable sharing program is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
The Christmas Start Program, operated by Maquoketa Community Services, matches hundreds of generous givers with needy recipients every year. People are invited to "reach for a star" by taking a star with a name and wish list of either a senior or a child from special trees at Maquoketa State Bank or U.S. Bank. The items to be given out are wrapped with the identifying stars attached and returned to the bank.
