The Illinois Legislature has made some changes effective Jan. 1, on how a mobile/manufactured home is taxed. It used to be that all mobile/manufactured homes were taxed under the Mobile Home Local Services Tax Act. What this means is your home was taxed at a much lower cost per square foot of area, with that cost decreasing as your mobile/manufactured home aged, and not taxed under the property tax code as "real property. What has changed with the taxing of your mobile/manufactured home is that if you are not located in a state licensed mobile/ manufactured home park and you sell, transfer or relocate to a different parcel of land outside of a mobile/manufactured home park, your home will then be classified, assessed, and taxed as real property. THIS SUMMER, ZOOLOGIST David Olson and his colleagues will hike into Orange County's coastal sage reserves lugging 100pound, 9-foot-tall jumbled frameworks of PVC pipe bristling with barbed wire and metal needles. Olson, director of science at the Irvine Ranch Conservancy, will look for domed nests of woven grass tucked into dense cactus patches. When he finds one, he'll place his contraption nearby.
