A report by temporary staffing company Manpower Inc. issued Tuesday, June 8, said 18 percent of Dayton-area employers surveyed expect to add workers in the third quarter. A year ago, 7 percent of companies surveyed had expected to add people.

Colorado Springs employers have curbed their enthusiasm for hiring as they look to the final quarter of the year, according to a quarterly employment report by temporary staffing giant Manpower Inc. The more downbeat forecast follows one in which Springs employers' hiring plans were the most optimistic in nearly three years.
The percentage of local employers planning to add staff exceeded those expecting cuts by 3 percentage points, with 13 percent anticipating hiring and 10 percent planning to reduce staff in the October-to-December quarter. That's down sharply from the current quarter, when 26 percent of local employers planned to expand and 12 percent anticipated cutbacks - the most upbeat outlook since the final quarter of 2008. Here's a lump of coal in the city's Christmas stocking: Colorado Springs tied for the worst job outlook in the country for the winter, according to a Forbes list based on the quarterly Manpower employment outlook survey.
The Forbes.com report said that the Springs faces a 3-percentage- point deficit in employment outlook for the first quarter of 2011, meaning more employers are planning to cut staff than are planning to hire. Sharing a three-way tie with Colorado Springs at the bottom of the Forbes list were Akron, Ohio, and Columbia, S.C..
