  • Lawyers for Facebook said Thursday that the Allegany County man who claims to be a co-founder of the social-networking Goliath is a "scam artist" engaged in "far-reaching fraud. Paul Ceglia fabricated the key evidence supporting his lawsuit against Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Zuckerberg's attorneys said in a response filed Thursday in federal district court in Buffalo.

  • Devotees of a Miami man who claims to practice a traditional African religion say they were sickened when they drank the mucus of a giant African snail. Federal authorities in January raided Charles L. Stewart's home after receiving complaints. Stewart has not been criminally charged, but prosecutors and state and federal wildlife agencies are investigating. The giant African snail is prohibited in the U.S. without special approval.

  • XENIA -- A Greene County man claims two Xenia police officers broke his wrist after they arrested him on a probation violation last January and refused to provide him with medical treatment that later resulted in him having surgery to repair his wrist. Zebadiah Bowden, 29, of Xenia, is suing the two officers, the city of Xenia and its police department and Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer alleging excessive use of force, deliberate indifference in failing to provide adequate medical care, assault and battery and negligence.

  • A Newark man claims the Family Dollar Stores aren't just cheap on their prices. Michael Scantling alleges in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Newark that Family Dollar Stores of New Jersey Inc. failed to fully compensate him for the overtime he worked.

  • A New Haven man is suing the town and several police officers for $2.5 million, claiming he was beaten severely and subjected to a racial insult during his arrest in 2010. Anthony Randolph, who is black, filed the civil rights lawsuit in U.S. District Court in July against Hamden, police Officers Timothy Brown and Jennifer Gaynor, Sgt. Michael Sigmon and Capt. Ronald Smith.

  • LEWISTON -- A local man filed a complaint with a state agency against a Tennessee trucking company claiming it wrongly rescinded a job offer after learning about his disability. Timothy Lynch, who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, was 25 years old in 2010 when he applied for a job with Western Express Inc. as a truck driver. He claims that Western Express violated the medical examination provisions of the Maine Human Rights Act and withdrew an offer as a driver because of his disability.

  • A man claiming to be God fended off two Taser blasts before Colorado Springs police tackled and arrested him Thursday morning. Jorelle Antivo, 21, charged police in the hallway at an apartment building in central Colorado Springs just after 3:30 a.m., according to police reports.

  • WESTWOOD -- A Sand Road resident accused the council of neglecting a park on the edge of town because it's located in a "predominantly black" area, drawing a protest from the mayor. Haydn Smith spoke Tuesday night at the council's public session, saying that Hegeman Park "has been an eyesore for years" while other borough parks, such as Westvale Park, have "been renovated in the last 20 years.

  • A Jackson Street resident said city police officers at the Roosevelt Center are actually making life more difficult for neighborhood residents. Joseph Mullins, 70, a noted West Virginia sculptor, has lived across from the police station and East End Community Center for about eight years. He said police officers routinely take street parking spaces from neighborhood residents, even when they have their own parking available at the rear of the building.

  • On Feb. 1, The Gospel Music Association announced that Aiken had been nominated for the Special Event Album of the Year Award for WoW Christmas Green, and association President John W. Styll says stories about Aiken's sexuality will not be a factor in determining if Aiken wins one of the association's Dove Awards. And online message boards and fansites devoted to Aiken still suffer no dearth of well-wishers or devotees. Discussions about whether Aiken is gay I aren't new - columnists and commentators have speculated about his sexuality for years. But Aiken has denied or evaded the question.
