In July 2009, Joe Scarpaci Jr., Virginia Military Institute professor and a Virginia Tech professor emeritus, rode his bike 325 miles from his home in Blacksburg, through the revolving doors of Magee-Womens Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, raising money for resources for cancer patients. In June, he repeated the ride, which is in memory of his mother, Josie, who died of breast cancer in 1998.
Hackensack University Medical Center has named Ketul J. Patel as its new chief strategy and operations officer and one of four executive vice presidents. University of Pittsburgh Medical Center plans to create 500 jobs during the next year, officials said yesterday after announcing strong results for the recently ended fiscal year.
