After an ongoing investigation into illegal drug and firearms sales, Columbia police on Friday night announced three arrests.
At about 4 p.m. outside of the Fast Lane convenience store at 220 N. Tenth St. near downtown, police arranged an undercover purchase of 3 grams of cocaine and a .25-caliber Lorcin handgun from Terrance L. Williams, 22, of Columbia.

Former Idaho Falls city prosecutor Kimball Mason pleaded guilty last Wednesday to a trio of felony charges relating to his longtime hobby of collecting city-seized firearms. Previously, we had reported that Mason had been charged with illegally adopting handguns, a Lorcin .9mm and a Ruger .357. While that account is still technically true, Mason also admitted in his plea agreement to taking an additional 16 firearms that the city of Idaho Falls had confiscated in criminal cases, according to an Attorney General's Office release. Mason's sentencing is scheduled for May 30, but he appears unlikely to serve anywhere near the 5-year maximum sentence possible on each count. The state has agreed not to oppose suspending Mason's prison sentence and will recommend Mason serve 12 months in count...

A federal grand jury indicted a Charleston man Wednesday on charges that he possessed more than five grams of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.
Jason Terrell Jones, also known as Marshal Jones, 23, also is charged with being a felon in possession of a handgun for allegedly having a 9mm Lorcin pistol on March 24, a news release states. Jones was previously convicted in Bronx County, N.Y., of dealing drugs, according to the indictment.
