AS a former, long-term resident of East Los Angeles' notorious Ramona Gardens housing project, I'm appalled by the local housing authority's Big Brother control over the residents - mainly poor Latinos and African-Americans.
I'm speaking about the Housing Authority of the city of Los Angeles and its overpaid president and CEO, Rudolf Montiel. According to news reports, he pockets more than $450,000 per year, which includes his regular salary, benefits, vacation time, housing allowance and bonuses.

Through this notice, the Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration (ETA) announces the availability of approximately $20.6 million to serve adult ex-offenders returning to their communities. ETA expects to award approximately 17 grants of up to $1,212,000 each for 27-months, which includes up to three months for a planning phase and a minimum of 24 months of operation. NEW YORK, Oct. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Mr. Peanut arrives in the Big Apple in his biodiesel Nutmobile to unveil a new urban park - a Planters Grove - on Manhattan's Lower East Side.
