The Columbia Housing Authority has been designated a "high performer" for the second consecutive year.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development evaluated the local housing authority on the condition of its properties, resident satisfaction, finances and management. It earned a score of 91 out of a possible 100 points for the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2010, the same score it received for fiscal 2009.

Meadowlands Racetrack tellers defiantly refused to consider a 20 percent pay cut following a two-hour meeting Thursday night, forcing an immediate showdown with Governor Christie and the New York State real estate executive who is seeking to take over the track.
Bob Liguori, manager of Laborers International Union of North America Local 137, which represents the tellers and other track workers, said the vote was "overwhelming" not to even consider the salary reductions that New York horseman Jeff Gural said are necessary to make the track's finances manageable. The union already has a contract with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority that expires next February.

Businessman Brian J. Lipke, a steady friend to County Executive Chris Collins and a generous donor to his campaign funds, might soon be named to the state-appointed control board that monitors Erie County finances and the county executive's budget decisions.
No member or prospective member of the Erie County Fiscal Stability Authority has ever been chummier with an Erie County executive. Lipke urged Collins to run for the office back in 2007; he serves as an occasional adviser to his fellow Republican; and he says he volunteered to serve on the control board at the suggestion of Collins' paid political consultant.
