With the U.S. marine industry in a downturn, longtime Spokane manufacturer EZ Loader Boat Trailers Inc. has taken steps to diversify by winning regulatory approval to sell its boat trailers throughout Europe and by launching a line of utility and motorcycle trailers in the U.S. President and owner Randy Johnson says a modified version of the company's venerable boat trailer line recently cleared the final hurdle to be "European type approved." European sales For the European market, EZ Loader modified its boat trailers slightly, with different signal lights and braking systems than its U.S. models, and those trailers had to receive approval to be sold under new European Union rules, Johnson says.

A competition involving skid steer loaders, long considered a workhorse on tri-state area farms and construction sites, will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 7, at Scott Implement located on Wisconsin 80 between Platteville and Cuba City.
Scott Implement, a New Holland dealership, is hosting a New Holland Super Boom Road Show event. It pits the area's most talented equipment operators against each other in the 200 Series Skid Steer Challenge. Competitors will operate a New Holland skid steer loader through five timed skill challenges. Local winners can earn cash prizes up to $850, plus a trip in October to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the New Holland North American Championship.

TEMPLE -- A local man's quick action saved the life of his father who was pinned, upside down, in the crushed cab of a loader that caught fire Friday afternoon.
Peter Childs, 52, was trapped beneath the loader when his son, Matt, arrived and ripped open the door, pulling his father out before emergency crews arrived.

Divers and the technical rescue team rushed at 8:45 p.m. Thursday to a gravel pit north of Battle Ground, where the operator of a large front-end loader was reported missing when he didnt come home for dinner.
Worried, the operators family members came to the scene and found the loader in the water, said Batallion Chief Tim Dawdy, a spokesman with Clark County Fire & Rescue.

State police say a Wampum man used a front loader to crush another man's car after reportedly catching the man with some of his scrap metal.
Police said Joseph Franer, 52, went to his mother's Big Beaver home Monday and saw that the scrap metal and machine parts were missing from where he had stored them in a wooded area behind the house.

NEW GLOUCESTER -- Selectmen on Monday awarded the purchase of a John Deere front-end loader at $123,800 to Nortrax Equipment Co. of Westbrook after reviewing eight sealed bids received last month.
The bids ranged from a low of $99,600 to a high of $156,000 that included the trade-in value of the town's current loader.
