AUBURN -- Team Prudential might have set some sort of Auburn Suburban Little League record this past weekend by playing three games in a 19-hour time frame. Friday night, Pridential they took on fiesty Ninety-Nine Restaurant in a matchup featuring two of the league's top two hurlers, Mallory Ouellette of 99 and Melissa Pawlina of Prudential. Both treated the large crowd to quite a night. Prudential was led offensively by Madison Rush, Katherine Gilpatrick and Hannah Olcott, while 99's leaders at the plate were Alyssa Burke, Andrea Demers and Maizy Demers.
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The box score that shows Danny Almonte pitched a perfect game at the Little League World Series is tucked in a binder atop a metal filing cabinet. Otherwise, that game in 2001 never officially happened - at least not after Almonte was proven to be 14, too old to play Little League ball.

The lighting upgrade is one part of improvements underway at the ball field, where teams that make up the Cross Lanes/ Nitro Little League play many of their home games. League President Ivan Meadows, for whom the field complex is named, said other improvements include new fencing. The old fence was only about 175 to 185 feet from home plate. He said Little League now recommends that outfield fences be 200 to 225 feet from home plate. LEWISTON/AUBURN -- Dube Gravel of South Lewiston Little League edged past Poisson's of New Auburn Little League, 9-8, in a major division baseball clash. For Poisson's, both Josh Hamel and Andre Coachman had two big hits to set the offensive pace. Cameron Dubay hit a two-run double to keep the score close as the game was reaching the later innings.

Little League tryouts, happening this very snowy week in a school gymnasium near you, have many dreaming of a warm spring - but not as many as they used to. Participation in Little League Baseball Inc. programs has been on a slow and steady decline for years. Despite those losses, however, LLB President (since 1995) and CEO (since 2001) Stephen Keener said his Williamsport, Pa.-based organization is healthy in relation to other youth-sports programs and as a component of the national economic engine.
LEWISTON -- After suffering a heartbreaking loss over the weekend, United regrouped in time to earn a decisive victory over Anthoine Financial Group, 13-5, in Elliot Ave. Little League majors action. Kaleb Morrisette got the game started with a single but was cut down attempting to steal by catcher Isaac Escobar.
AUBURN -- American Concrete blanked Rowe Ford, 12-0, in an Auburn Suburban Little League minor division baseball game that ended during Rowe's turn at bat in bottom of the fourth inning due to rain. Mark Bilodeau, Alex Avila and Lee Machenry all had successful base hits for Rowe Ford. Joel Stubbs, Marius Morneau and Jake Arel all hit triples for American Concrete. Most of American's players had an opportunity to get on base and score.
LEWISTON -- Top-seeded Elite Auto defeated United Ambulance in a wild final, 15-14, to claim the Elliot Ave. Little League major division baseball championship. United advanced to the final by taking out Anthoine Financial Group, 11-1, in the semifinals.
LEWISTON - Hammond Lumber found its way back into the win column in South Lewiston Little League baseball with a decisive 17-5 win over Dube Gravel. Colby Bilodeau picked up the win for Hammond, pitching four solid innings. Elijah Harris led the offense going 4-for-4 at the plate with a triple and scored four runs. Garret Poussard added two hits and also scored four runs. Brent Jones added two hits and two runs, as did Bilodeau. Orion Haynes played a solid defensive game in his first game of the year after recovering from a broken leg.
