Litigation support work is a challenging and rewarding area of work, where you know you are helping a client solve a real problem, and not just fulfilling a regulatory obligation. Litigation support practitioners are often engaged as either an expert or as a consultant. As an expert, you have special knowledge that members of the court do not have. Therefore, your job is to educate the court. You are to be objective, and your opinion of the specific issues cannot be a function of who is paying your fee. If engaged as a consultant, you might be asked to assist in developing strategies, pinpointing significant issues, fact-finding, or recommending when other experts are needed or might be helpful.

Whenever a corporate client and its accounting firm decide to part ways, "it is generally not a surprise," says [Ira Rosenbloom], partner and co-director of the accounting and advisory group at J.H. Cohn in Roseland. "If we find it difficult to satisfy a client, we would probably shy out upfront.
Expanded offerings include business consulting, forensic and litigation support services, and personal financial planning for business owners and highnet-worth individuals, he says. To stress the need to protect a client's confidentiality the manual instructs employees to "avoid talk about client matters in elevators, restaurants or other public places," and warns against leaving client-related papers unattended or in a car, "even for brief periods."
