Ms. June Marie Gholson, departed this life on Sunday, August 20, 2006, at the Southside Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. She was a native of Dinwiddie County, where she attended Dinwiddie County Public School System. She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she joined at an early age. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Joseph and Sylvia Gholson; and a step grandfather, James Edward Mason.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her precious son, Jakari Miles; parents, Juanita and Leonard Mason of Ford; four sisters, Paulette Davis, Charlene Davis and Phyliss Taylor, all of Ford, and Natasha Rawlings of Hopewell; one step sister, Stacy Rogers and step brother, Tony Rogers, both of West Petersburg; biological father, Dorsey Taylor...

Rasmussen joined the institute in 2003 and most recently served as director of the Sutherland 20 and Transcend Series. William C. Duncan was named chairman of the Sutherland Institute Board of Scholars. Duncan is a partner in the Marriage Law Foundation and previously served as executive director of the Marriage and Family Law Grant at the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University. WASHINGTON - At least three popular children's cereals are packed with more sugar in a one-cup serving than a Hostess Twinkie, and an additional 44 are loaded with more sugar in a cup than three Chips Ahoy cookies, according to a study released Tuesday by the Environmental Working Group.
Kellogg's Honey Smacks, Post Golden Crisp and General Mills Wheaties Fuel rank as the worst offenders based on the Twinkie measure, said the study, which analyzed 84 cereals. Other brands, including Honey Nut Cheerios, Apple Jacks and Cap'n Crunch, are among the 44 cereals that have more sugar in a cup than three Chips Ahoy cookies.

ENFIELD - , 73, peacefully passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, in Lincoln, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 23, 1938, in Carroll, as the youngest child of 10 to Archie W. and Mary (Osgood) Sutherland.
Barrie was a 1956 graduate of Lee Academy, and worked as a plumbing and heating technician, eventually owning his own business. He later worked as a bus and truck driver up until his retirement. Barrie enjoyed reading his newspapers, doing crossword puzzles, spending time with his family and following the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics as well as University of Maine sports. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He will also be remembered as a man who had a terrific sense of humor as well as someone who would strike up a conversation with some...

The Better Beginnings Coalition of the Roanoke Valley Inc. held its third annual bookmark contest, "Top Ten Reasons to be a Teen Now & a Parent Later," to focus on teen pregnancy prevention in the high schools.
