The issue of whether the Bible can and should be taught in public schools is a critical question, since college campuses are excellent places for academic debates and discussions, this a good place for these kinds of discussions," said [Lisa Graybill]. "The beauty of the constitution is that it does two things. It protects the individual's right to exercise religion, but it also prohibits the enforcing of any one religion. Unfortunately, I think many would like to see only one religion promulgated in public schools.
"I see much progress across the country when it comes to dealing religion and civil liberties," said [John Ferguson]. "Unfortunately, Texas is not doing so great right now considering that the rest of the country is taking religious consciousness to heart. The biggest stum...

The settlement comes at a particularly crucial time. The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), which went into effect June 1, 2009, requires every U.S.-American who wishes to exit or enter or the United States to have a valid U.S. passport or passport card. Previously, citizens needed only a valid U.S. driver's license to travel between the U.S. and Mexico or Canada.

You might explain something with, 'This is prettier 'n the Garden of Eden,' but it just doesn't compute," [Warren Chisum] said, if you haven't read the Bible.
"We don't have more natural resources than some other societies, yet we do much better," he said. "A lot of it's because of what's in that book.
An expert witness for the plaintiffs, child psychologist Dr. Andrew Clark, testified at a March 20 hearing that, based on interviews with former detainees and the statements of the plaintiffs, he thinks "there is a significant likelihood that the children at Hutto are suffering irreparable psychological injury by virtue of their detainment there."
