Fayette County needs to offer higher salaries if it wants to attract care managers and registered nurses to work in its mental health programs, according to the administrator of the county's Mental Health/Mental Retardation department. Lisa Ferris-Kusniar asked county commissioners on Tuesday to consider granting 3.5-percent raises to nonunion employees, effective Jan. 1. In addition, she is seeking 3-percent longevity raises for some 14 nonunion workers.
Funding for Fayette County's mental health/mental retardation programs will continue uninterrupted for the next fiscal year. Lisa Ferris-Kusniar, administrator of Fayette County Mental Health/Mental Retardation, said the county's 2007-08 contract with the state does not include a disputed real-estate provision similar to ones contained in contracts from previous years.

Snow didn't melt on the ball diamond so that crazy people who like to slosh around could play softball in the snow last Saturday night.
