After a bitter stalemate between KOMU and Mediacom over contract negotiations that resulted in a four-day blackout of programming from NBC and The CW for Mediacom cable customers, the two sides reached an agreement yesterday.
Phyllis Peters, a spokeswoman for Mediacom, said the cable provider put KOMU back into its lineup yesterday for customers in the Columbia/Jefferson City market. About 30,000 cable subscribers were affected by the blackout.

BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Pirates got good news about injured outfielder Andrew McCutchen.
McCutchen's left wrist injury is not serious and he will be back in the lineup today for the game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Yesterday, he played just two innings against the Tampa Bay Rays before leaving the game.

It takes a lot to interest me in the NBA regular season. As Exhibit A, I offer my fantasy basketball team, which is currently 50 games out of first place. In hindsight, I stuck with Yao Ming in my starting lineup too long -- about two months after he was ruled out for the season -- but I don't like to micromanage. Draft well and let the magic happen, I always say.
Yesterday, I decided to set my lineup for the first time since early December and dispatch a few infirm and unproductive players -- good riddance, Linas Kleiza and Brendan Haywood -- in an effort to move from last place to next-to-last.

When Maryland stepped onto the field for its season opener yesterday, it boasted a starting lineup featuring freshmen at every attack position - a rarity for a major program.
But the gamble sure paid off. Freshmen accounted for nine goals as the seventh-ranked Terrapins rolled over No. 4 Georgetown 11-6 at Multi-Sport Field.

Houston Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon, a former Pirates starter, was dropped from the starting rotation Sunday and will be used in the bullpen. The right-hander is 2-3 with a 5.04 ERA in 15 starts this season.
* Adrian Beltre was held out of the Seattle Mariners' starting lineup yesterday for the second consecutive game because of a bruised left index finger, but he's expected back today.

The Roots 'N Blues 'N BBQ Festival yesterday unveiled the first group of artists for its third edition, with the lineup highlighted by the Blind Boys of Alabama, The Dan Tyminski Band, Booker T. and the Carolina Chocolate Drops.
The Blind Boys -- returning after playing the inaugural event in 2007 -- will be the co-headliners with Tyminski's crew for the fest, to be held Sept. 25 and 26 in downtown Columbia. Both will perform Saturday.

Manny Acta filled out a lineup card yesterday morning for the 29th time this spring, and for the 29th time the Washington Nationals manager did so knowing it would not look the same Opening Night.
Injuries, precalculated days off and experimentation have prevented the Nationals from fielding their true starting nine even once this spring. And with the team monitoring catcher Paul Lo Duca (knee) and left fielder Elijah Dukes (hamstring) carefully over the final week of camp, Acta might not get to test his Opening Night lineup before Sunday's game at Nationals Park.

Hickman sophomore Taylor Cowan dominated the Pilot Grove lineup for five innings yesterday. The only problem was, Pilot Grove pitcher Clairyssa Lorenz was just as dominant through all seven.
Heading into the sixth inning, Cowan had struck out 10 batters and hadn't given up a hit at Antimi Field. But in the final two innings, she allowed seven hits and four runs while Lorenz allowed just one run and struck out four to preserve Pilot Grove's 4-1 win.

Coach John Hamilton knew he had his best lineup in for the final relay of yesterday's triangular swim meet.
As the swimmers took their marks for the 400-yard freestyle relay, Hamilton was confident that Hickman sophomore Marie Pope, junior Mary Sheahan and seniors Claire Piester and Julie Schenker would win the race in impressive fashion.
