For the past couple of years, the titles of the Tennessee Valley outlook articles have alluded to a progressively struggling economy, with slowing gross domestic product (GDP) growth. Clifton-based housewares retailer Linens 'n Things filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Friday, a move the company said will allow it to get its financial house in order and emerge stronger. The company is closing 120 stores, including three in New Jersey, and eliminating 2,500 sales jobs. The New Jersey locations included on the list of underperforming stores and targeted for closing are in Woodbridge, Mays Landing and Howell.
