As usual, the crowd gathered quickly around Tedy Bruschi's locker. Television cameras, microphones, notebooks. The media was four-deep Thursday night after the New England Patriots defeated the Indianapolis Colts 27-24 at Gillette Stadium, their semicircle around Bruschi's locker partially blocking the entrance to the locker room.
Bruschi, now in his ninth season as a Patriots linebacker, played a big role in the victory, with 12 tackles and a diving interception at the 1-yard line to halt the Colts' first drive of the game.

New England begins its quest for an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl victory and fourth in five years without the two coordinators who helped Bill Belichick win the first three titles.

New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi has been cleared by team doctors and could return to practice this week, eight months after suffering a mild stroke.
Bruschi, 32, originally planned to take a year off after the stroke in February and surgery to repair a small hole in his heart a month later. But as his health improved, Bruschi started traveling to see specialists and got favorable reports.

WHAT WOULD Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi say if he walked in right now?
How would he feel watching all 6-foot-1, 247 pounds of himself play in the Big Game on a 20-inch black-and-white analog television? What would he think of you watching the Super Bowl this Sunday surrounded by large floral prints with music from Josh Groban playing in the background? Would he really want to dig into that leafy bowl of collards with you?

Tedy Bruschi wasn't the most gifted linebacker when he played for the New England Patriots. Yet Bruschi might have been the most prepared and passionate player at his position in the NFL. That's why he lasted 13 seasons and miraculously came back to play after suffering a mild stroke in 2005.
Bruschi has brought the same approach to ESPN as he begins his second year as an analyst.

Both played inside linebacker, but they had different roles. It's easier to find someone like [Ted Johnson], a "plugger" type who bangs with guards, than to find a linebacker with [Tedy Bruschi]'s athleticism. Many assumed Bruschi's replacement at weakside inside linebacker would be free-agent pickup Monte Beisel. But in training camp Beisel will share reps with Chad Brown, another free-agent pickup. Coach Bill Belichick also will took at OLB Mike Vrabel inside.
