WITH The Tide postponed, again, I can't help but mock this hit to my future commute. I know what you're thinking: We all were going to be waiting in line to see if we'd be the first ones on this 7.4- mile bundle of fun. Better luck next time, I imagine, though I may need to hold my tongue. Next time it may be Virginia Beach's light rail.
In 2007 the Federal Transit Authority agreed to fund 72 percent of the original $232 million cost for The Tide, but not on cost overruns. Now that the cost is more than $338 million, the state/ local pricetag on this project jumped $106 million to $171 million. Compared with people in Norfolk, this marginally hits me, a Virginia Beach resident, in the wallet.
