Life Insurance Company of the Southwest sells annuities and experienced strong sales in 2009 as the financial crisis sent retirement dollars to products offering principal protection and guaranteed returns. Company spokesman Peter Fresco said the rise in revenues is due primarily to expansion "into the state of Massachusetts with the line of personal automobile insurance." According to Fresco, "competition amongst all companies on all lines we deal is very aggressive at this point.
