Many people were appalled at comments made by Kentucky U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul, son of Ron Paul, a 2008 Republican candidate for president. Both Pauls lean toward the libertarian end of the spectrum. Shortly after Rand Paul won the Kentucky GOP primary, he was asked if he would have voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He said he liked that it put an end to discrimination in public domains, but was less enthusiastic about it dictating that private businesses not discriminate. Several hundred people are expected to raise a toast to rye and hops at the 10th annual Buffalo Brew Fest, which is scheduled from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the HSBC Arena atrium and plaza. The small-government movement in Arizona has given the Libertarian Party a chance to field more candidates for state office this year than any election in at least 14 years, though some candidates have been tagged as ideological carpetbaggers by their own establishment.
