There is a perceived shortage of males in education provincially and nationally in Canada, particularly at the elementary level. My theoretical framework derives from queer theory, questioning the fluidity of discourse and identities, and troubling accepted, commonplace beliefs, knowledge, and practices. To this end, I interpret data from an online survey of 223 male primary/junior schoolteachers in Ontario. In this paper, I address male primary-junior teachers as role models in relation to race, sexual orientation, and culture, regarding two popular ideologies. Forced to choose between joining Canadas best synchronized ice- skating team in Burlington, Ontario or attending Canadas best university in Montreal, Cece Nease, 18, decided education comes first. Jackson Newsome is just like any other student at Marshall University with plenty of major life decisions to make and little time to make them. He lived in the dorms for a while. He has studied and worked hard for the past few years as he majored in both French and psychology. But theres something different about Newsome. At just 18, he is on his way out of Marshall as other students his age are just getting started on their college educations. He will graduate Dec. 10. Newsome went to South Charleston Middle School until he finished eighth grade and then was home schooled. His mother, Shonda Toler, pulled her son from public school because of his epilepsy, a condition he has had since childhood. His level of academic maturity also seemed to surpass what was expected of him. Toler notic...
