DENVER - MediaNews Group Inc., whose properties include this newspaper, announced Wednesday that it has appointed John Paton as CEO. It also has entered into an agreement with newly-created Digital First Media, headed by Paton, to provide management services and lead the execution of the company's business strategy.
Paton and Digital First Media also will manage The Journal Register Co. This arrangement provides MediaNews with immediate cost benefits and the ability to leverage the combined scale and expertise of MediaNews and Journal Register Co. to benefit both companies.

Partisan municipal elections in Arizona will vanish if legislation by Sen. Jonathan Paton is signed into law, but supporters of the bill say its ramifications would be far greater than just the removal of party affiliations on city ballots.
Paton's proposal, S1123, passed through the Senate Judiciary Committee on June 8, on a vote of 6-1, without amendments.
