- Caltech Professor Awarded for Snowflake Photography
Caltech physics professor and alum Ken Libbrecht has been named the recipient of the 2010 Lennart Nilsson Award for his photographic images of snowflakes. The prize, which is presented annually for scientific and medical photography, will be presented at a ceremony in Stockholm on Nov. 3.

One of the latter focused on outer space with photos from the Apollo space mission, while the other dealt with the "inner space" photographs of the world- renowned Lennart Nilsson, known primarily for his documentation of the life of the human fetus.

Libbrecht is also passionate about photographing snowflakes, (utilizing a custom- built photo-microscope). And now the Swedish Postal Service has issued a set of winter stamps featuring images of snowflakes taken by Libbrecht in northern Sweden.
