The Erie County Legislature on Thursday opposed the placement of power-generating windmills in Lake Erie a move that lawmakers hope dissuades the New York Power Authority from erecting a wind farm off the county's shoreline.
Erie became at least the seventh of nine New York counties fronting Lake Erie or Lake Ontario to oppose the placement of offshore windmills. Nearby, the Chautauqua County Legislature stated its opposition in the summer of 2010. A majority of Niagara County lawmakers this year agreed to oppose a wind farm in Lake Ontario.

The Review was set up by the Premier in the summer of 2007 in the aftermath of the shooting death of 15-year-old student, Jordan Manners. It was established to identify and analyze the underlying causes contributing to youth violence and provide recommendations for Ontario to move forward. Co-chaired by former Ontario Chief Justice and Attorney General [Roy McMurtry] and former Speaker of the Ontario Legislature, [Alvin Curling], the secretariat visited some selected neighbourhoods as part of its consultation process in Toronto. The team also visited three communities in Toronto, in Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, Thunder Bay and Ottawa.

ONTARIO - Students crossing Euclid Avenue to Chaffey High School can breathe a little easier now that a new traffic signal has been installed at a dangerous intersection.
Officials from Caltrans, the city of Ontario and the Legislature held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning to inaugurate the new signal and crosswalk at Euclid and Princeton Street.

This is important because the history of persons of African descent included a time when we were to be seen and not heard, our voices muted, our experiences given validation only when spoken of by persons not of African descent.
To infuse this statement with an analogy to African culture and heritage, it is said that many can sing the Blues but few have lived the Blues. Persons of African descent have both sung and lived the Blues. However, our history is much more than the Blues. This is a fundamental reason for Black History Month.

[Mike Metcalf], who was at a briefing with city councillors in the wake of Brampton's ninth murder of the year, informed that 24 homicides in Brampton and Mississauga since the start of 2008 represent a dramatic increase.
Meanwhile, Ontario's Premier, Dalton McGuinty, has extended the term of Review of the' Roots of Youth Violence, set up in 2007, to submit its report. "I've been eager to receive their information. So, Fm not exactly sure but I believe we are going to receive that by the end of this year," he said.
