NEW YORK (Reuters) - Hedge fund titanscored a legal victory when a New Jersey judge tossed out a long-running civil lawsuit filed against hisby insurer Fairfax Financial Holdings.
In court order signed on Monday [Sept. 12], New Jersey Superior Court Judge Stephan Hansbury dismissed Fairfax's claims that SAC Capital had conspired with other hedge funds to spread negative information about the Canadian company in a bid to drive down its stock.

This article focuses on the role of social capital in lawyers' careers by examining the career outcomes of Jewish lawyers. Although research on the legal profession has emphasized social capital as an inherently positive resource, this article conceptualizes social capital as multivalent, with the potential for both positive and negative effects. Drawing on five forms of social capital and examining four separate outcomes (type of practice setting, prestige of field of practice, satisfaction, and income), the analyses demonstrate that particular forms of social capital are indeed related to diverging outcomes. Unlike legislators who can earn outside income from law firms and other businesses, judges can't accept outside work. Judges work for the public full-time, all year round. For that they deserve not only our respect, but also fair and just compensation. Our state legislators have done a lot of good work this year. They passed a number of bills that are moving New York City forward, but there's still a lot of unfinished business - including judicial raises. We hope that when our leaders return to Albany, they'll do what's right for our judges and for all New Yorkers.
