Lt. Col. Lee E. Tafanelli will be promoted to colonel in the Kansas National Guard during a short ceremony at 11:30 a.m. today. The ceremony will take place in the Adjutant General's Conference Room at the State Defense Building, 2800 S.W. Topeka Blvd.

A monument honoring anyone who has been awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge will be dedicated during a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday at the Gage Park Memorial, near S.W. 10th and Gage Boulevard.
The new monument, crafted by Lardner Monuments, is 5 feet tall by 5 feet wide and located adjacent to the walkway leading up to Gage Park Memorial. It is behind the three-panel Korean monument and faces toward the World War I Eagle monument.
