There is a good reason why George Clooney's "The Ides of March" was my favorite of all the films I saw in my few days at the Toronto Film Festival.
It's not just because it was close to the best film there, or even the best I saw. Nor is it entirely because I've been a sucker for backroom pol movies since seeing Henry Fonda, Lee Tracy and Cliff Robertson in Franklin Schaffner's crackling 1964 film version of Gore Vidal's play "The Best Man.
