The son of two Olympic athletes, Leander Paes always knew he would follow in his parents' footsteps. Vece Paes won the bronze medal in the 1972 Olympics in Munich as a member of India's field hockey team, while Jennifer Paes played for the Indian basketball team.
Leander never planned for tennis to be his path to the Games.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- Elena Bovina and Nenad Zimonjic, teaming for the first time, defeated defending champions Martina Navratilova and Leander Paes on Sunday to win the Australian Open mixed doubles title.
Russian right-hander Bovina and Zimonjic, from Serbia- Montenegro, ended Navratilova's hopes of a 10th Grand Slam mixed doubles title with a 6-1, 7-6 (3) center-court victory in 1 hour, 9 minutes.

Sampras coming to Avon Pete Sampras, the seven-time Wimbledon and 14-time Grand Slam singles champion, will be in Connecticut in July.
Sampras will lead the Newport Beach (Calif.) Breakers against the Hartford FoxForce at the Apple Arena at Blue Fox Run Golf Course in Avon on July 21. Sampras will play his first match in New England since a second-round loss to Leander Paes in the 1998 Pilot Pen Tennis tournament at the Connecticut Tennis Center in New Haven.
