NEW YORK, Dec. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Urban League (NUL) and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) today urged Express Scripts, Inc. (ESI) to resume negotiations and come to an agreement with Walgreens on new contract terms. If an agreement is not reached, millions of Americans, especially in diverse and underserved communities, stand to lose access to pharmacy services on January 1, 2012.

What I hope you do is join me in understanding that when politicians criticize testing and high standards, they do a disservice to our schools, to the parents, and to the students. In other words, what they're saying is they're choosing bureaucracy over our children. Instead of undermining standards, we're striving to meet those standards in every part of America. I made a promise to LULAC and to others to improve the Nation's public schools. I'm delivering on that promise.

The Empower Hispanic America with Technology initiative works to increase Hispanic educational attainment and economic empowerment. According to current U.S. Census Bureau data, just 57 percent of the Hispanic population over the age of 25 has graduated from high school, and Hispanics are more likely to be unemployed or underemployed. LULAC will use the $1 million SBC Excelerator grant to fund a competitive grants program for regional LULAC organizations and community partners to offer enhanced technology access and services. Visitors to LULAC community centers will use high speed Internet access and computer technology to research career options, college opportunities, scholarships, GED preparation, financial aid and other resources.

A press conference was held on Saturday, July 15, 2006 to announce resolutions that have been passed by the Texas League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the National League of United Latin American Citizens, which represents the largest Hispanic organization in the United States, and the American GI Forum. These resolutions call for the immediate release and temporary transfer of [Ramiro R. Mu] "[Ramsey Mu]" R. Muñiz who is incarcerated in the United States Penitentiary in Florence, Colorado.
