FORT LORAMIE -- Jared Hoying, a rookie playing for the Spokane (Wash.) Indians, recently was named Most Valuable Player of the Northwest League (Rookie A).
Hoying, a 2007 graduate of Fort Loramie High School, hit .326 this season with 75 hits including 10 home runs, 12 doubles, five triples and 50 RBIs in just 55 games. He also stole 19 bases, tying him for second in the NWL.

DETROIT - Louisiana authorities on Monday dropped a bid to extradite former Detroit Tigers star Denny McLain, major league baseball's last 30-game winner, for trial in a dispute over a scrap metal sale.
McLain won the 1968 American League Most Valuable Player and Cy Young awards after winning 31 games and leading Detroit to the World Series. He had six losses that season.

Thanks to a $1 billion stadium set to open in 2009, the Cowboys' value increased by 28 percent to $1.5 billion. They climbed from third to first in the rankings, leapfrogging the Redskins ($1.467 billion) and the New England Patriots ($1.199 billion).
