The Office of Citizen Exchanges, Youth Programs Division, of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announces an open competition for the Youth Leadership Program with Algeria. Public and private nonprofit organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(3) may submit proposals to provide youth and adult participants from Algeria with an approximately four-week U.S.-based exchange program in summer 2012 focused on civic education, youth leadership development, respect for diversity, and community engagement, and to support follow-on community service projects in their home communities. Information in the School Leadership Program (SLP) Annual Performance Report (APR) is collected in compliance with the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended, Title II, Part A, Subpart 5; 20 U.S.C. 2151(b), the Government Performance Results Act (GPRA) of 1993, Section 4 (1115), and the Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR), 34 CFR 75.253. EDGAR states that recipients of multi-year discretionary grants must submit an APR demonstrating that substantial progress has been made toward meeting the approved objectives of the project. In addition, discretionary grantees are required to report on their progress toward meeting the performance measures established for the U.S. Department of Education School Leadership Program.

UW Law School Dean to address students at fourth annual CAIR-WA event
SEATTLE, July 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Sunday, July 10th, the Seattle office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-WA) will host some 150 Muslim students (ages 13-22) for its fourth annual Muslim Youth Leadership Program (MYLP) at Seattle's City Hall. (The event is co-sponsored by the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods.)

DAYTON -- A program designed to cultivate leadership in black professionals has been resurrected after a four-year hiatus.
Parity Inc. is now seeking applicants for its Black Leadership Development Program 2012-2013. The program started out as a joint project between the Dayton Urban League and Parity Inc. but was turned over to Parity, a community-based nonprofit organization, after the collapse of the Dayton Urban League in December 2010. Interest in the program started declining before the Urban League closed its doors because 2008 was the last time the program had graduates, according to LaTonia McCane, a Parity board member.
