NEW YORK, April 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Because fluoride can disproportionately harm poor citizens and black families, Atlanta civil rights leaders, Andrew Young and Dr. Gerald Durley, have asked Georgia legislators to repeal the state's mandatory water fluoridation law, reports Fluoride Action Network (FAN).
Andrew Young, former U.N. Ambassador and former Atlanta Mayor, along with Reverend Dr. Gerald Durley, Pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Atlanta, both inductees in the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame, expressed concerns about the fairness, safety, and full disclosure regarding fluoridation in letters to the state's minority and majority legislative leaders. Though there have been several iterations of the commissions - Congress passed two laws revising the commissions in the wake of a successful Supreme Court challenge - their use has been so infrequent that legal experts and the media have little idea what to expect. Since Sept. 11, New York University's Center on Law and Security reports that 1 74 suspects have been convicted of terrorism in civilian courtrooms and only three by military commission.

(This article originally ran in Lawyers Weekly USA, Boston, MA, another Dolan Media publication.)A recent Altman Weil Flash Survey of AmLaw 200 Law Firm Management Techniques reports that lateral growth, strategic planning and benchmarking/best practices are the most effective management techniques implemented in major law firms in the last five years.
The survey, inspired by Bain & Co.'s annual survey of top management techniques employed in major corporations, asked chairs and managing partners of AmLaw 200 firms to identify which of 24 law firm-specific management techniques they had used and to rate their experience with those employed. Effectiveness ratings were computed as a function of each technique's popularity (frequency of employment) and assessment of its success.
